My background is audio engineering, mostly working at Daystar Television and Covenant Church along with plenty of contract work. Through the years of working at church I realized that there has to be a better solution for drum enclosures other than your typical fold out shield. While working at Daystar back in 2004 I had the idea of building a drum enclosure but I didn’t have access to a shop and I honestly had no idea where to start. Fast forward a few years I started working at Covenant Church and in 2010 they did a big remodel to the sanctuary and the stage. The senior pastor asked me to get rid of the ugly fold out shield and get something that looks better. By that time I had some hand sketches of designs and ideas but still didn’t know where to start. But I committed to get something built so I had to figure it out. My father-in-law let me use his shop, so I got started building. I fumbled my way through the first 5 yrs of prototype stage, building 2-3 enclosures per year. After working countless hrs, not make a dollar, working overnights in the cold/heat, while maintaining 50+hrs a weeks at work. I decided that is wasn’t working and stopped building enclosures. I stopped building enclosures for about a year, and friend reached out needing a drum enclosure and he wanted one of mine.
On that enclosure, the build really started to come together and get to place where I felt really good about it. It wasn’t long after that, my wife I and learned that she was pregnant. We were so excited but I was nervous because I had zero extra money in the bank, so I talked to God about it and asked if He would send some people my way that want to buy a drum enclosure. Within 6 months built 12 drum enclosures and had a some extra money for baby expenses, I had never worked so hard and such long hrs, but I was proud and thankful because God provided. Then I asked God, please make the phone calls stop, I have been working 100+hrs a week and now I just want to be a dad. My phone stopped ringing and no new customers called. Until about a year and half later. My son Judah was about 18th months old, we moved into a new house with a small shop in Tioga Texas. I talked to God about it again and said, you know I think I’m ready to start building drum enclosures again, the next day someone called about making an order. About the same time I was feeling like it was time for me to move on from Covenant Church. So in March of 2018 I resigned from Covenant and started working on my own. Within a couple months I hired on 2 guys to help in the shop, and God really provided the customers. We built about 50 drum enclosures that year and every year we surpass the amount the did the previous year.
So thats my story in a nutshell, When I first started building enclosures in 2010 I had no idea it would turn into what it is today. I am thankful and proud to say that now we have Goplin Drum Enclosures all over the United States, from San Antonio to Detroit, from NJ to Seattle, from Miami to Alaska. I have been able to meet some great people, make some great friends, and have some great experiences along the way!!
